Cars aren't evil. And public transport can suck. Especially when you get the chewing gum seat. But it's a question of balance. How many car journeys are really necessary? A double-decker bus carries the same number of people as 40 cars. Buses are seven times safer than cars and obviously more environmentally friendly. Imagine if everyone with a car took just one bus journey a week how many fewer farting exhaust pipes would be on the road. So, don't feel too guilty about driving your new two ton diesel guzzler, just give it a rest occasionally.

The public transport system in China has been improved a lot in recent years. I prefer to take public transport rather than a taxi if I am not in a hurry. 26 February 2010, 11:52public transport...
buses and trains sometimes stink and make me gag to the point where i almost feel like im going to be sick, i cant control the people that get on the bus, if i could life would be so much easier especially when bus is free of charge for people of my age and train is almost the same...instead i walk it helps me lose weight as well. 01 February 2010, 22:45Buses
I make nearly all of my journeys on public transport as I have a bus pass :) 01 February 2010, 17:46Riding the bus to school
I ride the bus to and from my classes every day. It's the thing to do here, I love it! 25 January 2010, 23:24I brave it every day...
I commute from Oakland to the marina in SF and what would take me 1/2 an hour (without traffic, with traffic up to an hour) takes me an hour and twenty minutes, and probably costs a bit more per day, but hey, I do it so I can crochet on the way and not have to deal with the other awful drivers, and it saves the planet! 21 January 2010, 23:23I take the bus to school
It's great fun! I get to talk to my friends on the way, and it's one of the only proper, sit-down conversations I have with them. 07 January 2010, 09:53bike it!
I'm in a city, and when weather permits, I bike everywhere. It's good for me AND good for you! 29 December 2009, 01:32Public Transportation everyday
I take public transportation everyday simply because I cant drive anything and I stop asked a driver to drive me anywhere since I was in college. I wanna experience the crazy-ness on public transportation and I realize this is one of my effort(less) to save earth from global warming. 27 December 2009, 15:54bus to class
I take the bus to my classes everydayy but this can be hard if your town doesn't have a good bus system 24 December 2009, 20:53or even better, go by bike

My mums friend offered to drive me and my friends to school, but i said no thank you because i new it would be better for the envirment if me and my friends took public transportation. 09 November 2009, 17:42I use public transportation everyday.
Since I can't drive I have to take buses in order to get to college everyday. 03 November 2009, 01:08I take public transport everywhere
I can't drive yet, so I pretty much take buses everywhere I have to go. I prefer trains and miss them, but it's easier to get to college on a bus. I'm gonna be taking driving lessons soon, granted, but even after that I probably won't be able to afford a car so I'll just stick to buses and borrow my parent's car if I need to xD 23 October 2009, 21:46take the public trasnport
it is soo nice to take the busi dont like it
it is boring 21 October 2009, 09:10
I use public transport
I don't have a car because I don't need it. I spend the time I use to go to work in public transport to read a good book or study something new. You can't do that in while driving a car!! 19 October 2009, 08:27Do It, you know you want to ;)
I catch the bus or train to and from school everyday. Despite the stereotypical opinion that Public Transport is gross and it sucks, I actually really like it and its quite reliable. I don't know whether its different overseas but in Australia its really good.Help minimalise our carbon footprint, bus it, train it, tram it, ferry it. 16 October 2009, 03:16

I always catch the bus to school and occasionaly walk even when going into town I catch the bus, they don't make me feel as nautious. On another hand being on a coach for 5 and a half hours doesn't exactly make me feel like i'm doing something to help anyone.

hello...
I'd like to use public transportation because it's cheaper, and we'll meet new people. I also like to watch them what they're doing, cause everyone is different. And sometimes, we'll got a new friend while using public transportation. Cheers.. =) 15 May 2009, 18:53
yes, but...
I use public transport everyday, but here in Sao Paulo, Brazil, it's a big problem. Our public transport is really terrible, noisy, uncomfortable and dirty... people would use it more if it was better. And i'd be more encouraged too if I didn't life so far of the places I must go to and if some buses didn't mean headache. 17 May 2008, 00:20
Ditch the car...just for a day
It isn't always easy with two small children but we have no car and don't want one. This doesn't mean we are stuck at home all the time, it just takes a little more planning to go somewhere that's all. How about taking yourself off for the day on the train? Piling yourself and the kids onto a train on a local line to see what's further up or down it? With petrol prices rising and motorways a hell on earth, isn't it time to ditch the car...for a day or two, at least? 30 April 2008, 10:30
Dump your car
I fully endorse one of the messages below. A few years ago my car was written off after someone hit it in the middle of the night while it was parked outside my house. I decided to do without and manage with my bike and the local buses. I have never wanted to go back to the car! It is so liberating not to be paying for the thing: keeping it going/full of fuel/taxed and insured, then worrying about where to park and whether it's safe blah blah. And if I really really need a car, hiring occassionally is not nearly as expensive as owning full time.
If you can manage without, get rid of that car!

Older but wiser - and happier!
Come on over 60s in the UK, we all have free bus passes, so let's use them.Even if you don't live on a bus route you can drive to your nearest bus stop and leave the car, and then, off you go. You don't have to worry about traffic, so you can really enjoy the landscape, particularly if you ride upstairs on a double decker. If you take the time to plan your route you can have the most amazing day out. You don't have to completely abandon the car, but you'll be surprised at how little you really need to use it. 25 February 2008, 12:38
don't replace the car!
I crashed my car at Christmas 07, 20 seconds from the front door. Was going for a pint of milk to a big supermarket 5 mins away in the car one Saturday lunch. I live 3 mins walk from my local shop. Since then I have not replaced my car as I live on a bus and train route. I have taken about 5 taxis even to work when I've been running late - and to one or two places which are impossible to get to on time, on public transport. It has made me safer, better planned, I've met lots of people on the buses and it has saved me money. Even though it takes an hour to work and an hour back it's been worth it. The message is that you don't need to replace your car, you'll be surprised how nice it is not to have the responsibility. You have to be creative but it's worth it! 24 February 2008, 03:07
two for one
yesterday i was intending to complete my goal of taking public transport as much as i can, but the bus wasn't coming at all. i waited and waited and nothing. so i started to walk to the next stop. and i waited. and nothing. and so i walked to the next stop after that one. and still waited... and so i kept going until i found myself at my office. thus completing the walking to work and being healthier action. public transport! bless...
